Last week, I published my list of the 10 best TV shows I watched this year. Superlatives season continues today with the first half of my list of the episodes I loved most. Unsurprisingly, a good number of the best episodes came from shows in the top 10. So for the sake of variety, I'm going to save those for a list coming later this month. In the meantime, I picked out a group of episodes from series that didn't make the top 10 cut for one reason or another.
One of the great things about episodic television is that a show doesn't have to be outstanding every week in order to be outstanding in a specific week. Some of the episodes below involved shows punching above their weight for a single installment, while others were more or less in line with what these series were doing across a whole season.
