A review of this week's Shrinking, "D-Day" — with spoilers — coming up just as soon as I end the day in the same bra that I started it in...

It's hard to find a more familiar sitcom trope than the childbirth episode. Others certainly happen more often. But there's something very loud — literally and figuratively — about this one that makes it stick in the memory. If you've seen enough of them, you can start reciting the dialogue before the characters do. It's to the credit of "D-Day" that it doesn't lean too far into all the cliches from this kind of story. Yes, there's panicked discussion of epidurals, car seats, and ice chips. But the story cleverly inverts some of the more familiar story and character beats, and avoids others altogether.
