Shrinking recap, Season 3, Episode 5: 'Hold Your Horsies'
Jason Segel and Lily Rabe in 'Shrinking'

A review of this week's Shrinking, "Hold Your Horsies" — with spoilers — coming up just as soon as I do a bad British accent for four years...

Shrinking recap, Season 3, Episode 4: ‘The Field’
Paul gets back to work, Gaby explores the idea of Jimmying, and Derek gets very, very, extremely, incredibly high

I was shocked — shocked! — to see "Hold Your Horsies" end with Paul's daughter Meg kissing Jimmy. Well, to quote Philip Fry, not that shocked. After all, it's something I predicted in my season premiere recap. Then again, it's not like Shrinking was treating this moment as a stunning reveal to anyone other than Jimmy. Meg has been behaving differently this season. She's been lighter and more banter-y, as it turns out that Hollywood has been wasting Lily Rabe's comedic chops for most of her long and impressive career. And even when Mega was insisting that Jimmy was "practically my adoptive brother," there was a vibe between Rabe and Jason Segel that, when added to Meg's brief allusions to not being 100 percent happy in her marriage, made it clear this was coming at some point.

Of course, Meg does this after Jimmy has talked about how badly he wants an "uncomplicated kiss" before he can figure out what to do about Sofi. Instead, he gets an incredibly complicated kiss, since Meg is both a married woman and the daughter of Jimmy's mentor and surrogate father. The only part that fully matches the fantasy he described to her earlier is that we hear Jimmy singing "Nightswimming" by R.E.M.(*) — and, I suppose, the fact that Jimmy really enjoys it, despite how messy this is all about to be.
