A review of this week's The Pitt — with spoilers — coming up just as soon as I commit insurance fraud to keep you from smoking...

For all of Robby's struggles in the first season, the one area where he was almost always on top of things was in acting as supervisor of and mentor to the residents and med students. There was the clumsy stuff with McKay and David at the end of the day. But beyond that, Robby knew how to teach, how to supervise, and simply how to make sure that everyone working for him was doing okay amidst the chaos.
Among the ways in which he's struggling even more this season is that he's now starting to fail in this role. Whitaker is his new special little guy, brought in to help when Robby's buddy Duke(*) finally shows up for an exam. And he did briefly attempt to give Mel a pep talk a few episodes back, before getting distracted. But there was also the conversation on the helipad with Langdon — and, worse, there was the trauma room immediately afterwards, where Robby seemed to be taking pleasure in how out-of-sorts Langdon was, jabbing him further by quizzing him on procedure. You can write off the first part as Langdon not being owed Robby's forgiveness or approval, but the second part was bad. And what he does here with Mohan is appalling.
