There's a joke from Ricky Schroder's first episode of the Nineties cop drama NYPD Blue that I think about a lot when I watch this show. Schroder has just finished an interview with a criminal named Julio, and Julio laments the confluence of bad luck that has led to him being arrested. Schroder replies, "Yeah, why don't you write that up for Reader's Digest: 'My Worst Day Ever So Far,' by Julio."

The design of The Pitt means that at one point or another per season, almost every character gets to be Julio. In addition to everyone dealing with PittFest, Season One included Dana being assaulted, McKay being briefly arrested, Langdon getting busted for stealing drugs, Santos confronting memories of being abused as a girl, Whitaker having every kind of fluid spilled on his scrubs, and, of course, Robby breaking down over his Covid PTSD and his guilt about failing to save Jake's girlfriend.
