The Emmy nominations were announced this morning. (You can download the full list from the Emmy website.) As always with every awards show, there are things to get excited about and things to tear your hair out about. Let's hit some of the good, some of the bad, and some of the weird:
GOOD: Rhea Seehorn might finally win an Emmy this year
The 18 nominations for Pluribus didn't lead this year's list — that would be The Pitt with 25, and we'll get back to that — but at least some of that was because it has a much smaller group of potential acting nominees. Jeff Hiller got a guest star nomination for basically one scene (as Larry the guy in the bicycle shorts), though some of that is also because he's a former winner, and that's an easy way to get nominated again. Miriam Shor was nominated as a guest. Karolina Wydra and Carlos-Manuel Vesga got supporting noms, and they were basically unknown on American TV before this.

The point is, the Academy clearly likes the show. And while Seehorn isn't a lock to win for lead drama actress — earlier this year, she lost to fellow nominee Keri Russell at whatever we're calling the SAG Awards now — she feels a lot closer to a win than she did in the years where she was either being ignored for Better Call Saul or losing to Julia Garner.
(This is your periodic reminder that Better Call Saul never won a single Emmy, which Peter Gould and I discussed a few years back for my Saul book.)
