Cars keep getting into accidents near (or sometimes with) Gordon and Ashley, the would-be lovers at the center of the super-charming Australian romantic comedy series Colin From Accounts. The two — played by the series' husband-and-wife creators, Patrick Brammall and Harriet Dyer — meet in the first place because he's too distracted by a glimpse of her exposed nipple to avoid hitting a dog crossing the street. (If you've never seen the show before, it's okay! The dog survives, and becomes their pet and the title character!) Early in the premiere of the third and final season, Gordon and Ashley are seeing each other for the first time in several years, in a doctor's office with a big picture window looking onto the street behind where Gordon is sitting. A car crashes right outside, but he and Ashley are so surprised to see each other, they don't even notice.

At times, Gordon and Ashley's love story feels a bit like watching a car wreck in slow motion. Time and again, one of them or the other makes a terrible decision that we can see coming from far away, and they are surprised by the damage they each cause. Yet Brammall and Dyer are so good together, so smart about writing for each other, and so clever in how they structure jokes not only for their own characters, but for all of Gordon and Ashley's loved ones, that our heroes' constant mistakes only make them more endearing, rather than exasperating.
