It's Monday, which means it's time for another episode of the TV Is Good podcast, where Kathryn VanArendonk and I look at notable television shows from the present and the past. We're all about spies this week, with our thoughts on the new season of Slow Horses — which I'll be recapping once again, starting this Wednesday — and what, if anything, feels different now that original showrunner Will Smith has moved on to other projects.

After starting out with the grossest, most bumbling TV spies of all time, we decided to shift gears to a far more stylish and skillful secret agent. That's right, it's time to go back in time 25 years to talk about "Truth Be Told," the pilot episode of Alias and our introduction to the badass of all badasses, Jennifer Garner as Sydney Bristow:

At this writing, our Patreon poll for the October episode has proven to be a barn-burner, with The Simpsons' "Treehouse of Horror IV" and The X-Files' "Home" going back and forth in the lead position. (As I'm typing this on Friday, they are just tied again.) We'll give this until day's end to see what you guys decide; if it's still a tie at that point, we'll have to do a run-off poll of just those two options.
Important note for Patreon subscribers: For some reason, the podcast main feed didn't link to the Patreon for last week's episode. This week's episode synced up like normal, and Patreon support is working the problem re last week's ep, but it's not fixed at this writing. So for the moment, you may need to go to the main feed to get that one. Apologies for the inconvenience.
For next week's episode, we're going big, and then little. First, I'll try to see if Kathryn can get excited about Reacher, and/or its new spinoff Neagley. Then, we'll go back in time to discuss "Louie Goes Too Far," episode 16 from Season One of Taxi, an early spotlight on Danny DeVito's incredible work as the slimy Louie DePalma. Taxi is streaming on Paramount+, Prime Video, and Pluto.
The podcast also has its own social media accounts on Instagram, BlueSky, Threads, and TikTok.
To quote the hosts of every show you listen to, please remember to subscribe, rate/like, and review, because the algorithm uses that data to decide what shows to promote to people who don't already know about them. Please help us beat the algorithm at its own game. You can also write to the two of us specifically at tvisgoodpod@gmail.com.
